An example of a pre-Roman industry producing white salt from wild brine. Established in 1842, the Thompson family business produced various grades of salt at Marston. Vale Royal Borough Council purchased the site in 1986 to prevent its demolition. Restoration is due to be undertaken by an independent charitable trust. Introductory exhibition, timber-framed manager's office, horizontal steam engine and nodding donkey brine pump. A 1900 pitch roofed salt van on its original private siding. ....
